What happens

What a breathwork journey is.

Ninety minutes of guided breath and music, held online on Zoom. You lie down at home, cover your eyes, and let the breath and the music do the work. No experience needed.

Dr. Katie Simons leads the journey. She is a clinical hypnotherapist, breathwork practitioner, and coach with a Doctor of Pharmacy background; her work meets at the point between nervous-system science and spirituality. If you have been through a retreat, this is a simple way to keep the integration alive. If you haven’t, it is a gentle introduction to the kind of work we do at UAF.

Agenda

90 minutes
  1. 01Opening · 15 minSettling in, a short orientation to the breath, and what to expect.
  2. 02Breathwork · 60 minThe journey itself, guided by Katie’s voice and the music.
  3. 03Sharing and closing · 15 minTime to land. A chance to say a few words about what came up, or just listen.

How to prepare

6 things
  1. 01Comfortable headphones. The music carries the session, so headphones make a real difference over speakers.
  2. 02Somewhere to lie down — a bed, a rug, a mat on the floor. You will be horizontal for most of the 90 minutes.
  3. 03An eye mask, or a darkened room. Removing visual input helps the attention drop inward.
  4. 04A blanket within reach. Body temperature can swing during the breath.
  5. 05Water nearby, and eat lightly. Nothing heavy in the two hours before.
  6. 06A space where you will not be interrupted, and a phone on silent.

What may come up

Normal
  • Crying, sometimes without a story attached to it.
  • Quivering, shaking, or involuntary movement.
  • Tingling in the hands, feet, or around the mouth.
  • Waves of heat or cold.
  • Laughter, or a sudden lightness.
  • Visuals or visualizations.
  • New awarenesses.
  • Very little at all — a quiet, restful 90 minutes.

Any of these is a normal response to the breath. Katie stays on the call throughout and will guide the pace.
